What Makes a Haywood Rod
All my rods are finished to the same meticulous level of craftsmanship. Many features that other makers charge extra for, such as client-selected reel seat spacers or agate stripping guides, are standard fare on Haywood rods.
See the standard Fit and Finishing on every rod that leaves the shop.
I am a FULL TIME rod maker, so your order isn’t just a nights and weekends task. Rods typically are delivered 12 weeks from when ordered.
I pride myself on helping an angler find the right taper, length and line weight to fit their fishing situation and casting style. Because making a split cane rod is such a labor intensive art, it only makes sense to craft each rod to the future owner. It is why before starting your build, I always include a consultation to determine what would suit you best.

Additional Specialization
I offer a few select additional services that make a special rod even more unique. These are perfect to add to a rod commissioned for special occasions such as retirements, anniversaries or just to create a true heirloom piece.

These thin, five-turn silk bands run the length of the rod. They give a rod a vintage appearance as they were often used on older rods to add hoop strength and keep sections together when hide glues would soften after a day of fishing in the sun. With modern adhesives, they serve an aesthetic function.

Harvested from my childhood home and shaped to a style of your choosing, these grips are a durable yet supple addition. They have a unique grain pattern, a feel similar to leather and provide a more direct connection with the rod and your flies when fished.

While I tip all my guides, ferrules and tip tops with trim wraps, you can add additional colors or patterns into trims. A particularly nice combination is a thin black trim followed by a vintage Gudebrod classic twist thread in black and a color that accents the main wrap.

Warranty
A Haywood rod is a lifetime investment. I guarantee every rod against workmanship and material failure for as long as you own it. And as one of the younger rod makers in the country, I can offer that guarantee for longer than most.
If a car door, over zealous Labrador or vengeful significant other happens to get hold of your rod, I can repair it after evaluation and estimate. But then I ask that you chip in.
